Korean skincare for teenagers

What should be chosen for delicate, sensitive, acne and inflammation-prone teenage skin?
Let’s attempt to discuss that.
First of all, I want to warn you that even if you buy lots of good treatments, there is no guarantee that the child will immediately agree to use any of them. Have patience, don’t force it, don’t bring attention to the imperfections. Perhaps, the teen doesn’t see and doesn’t notice them, and you can create a new issue for him, make him think about his imperfections, and introduce a new inferiority complex. Be sensitive and careful with the feelings of your children.

If you see a serious issue, it’s better to gently talk the child into a visit to a dermatologist. Perhaps, they will listen to a doctor more readily, and the treatment will cost much less. First of all, ask yourself how often your teen changes the pillow case and what he uses to dry his face? It’s best to get single-use paper towels. Does he wash his face at all? Or does he just splash some lukewarm water into his eyes in the morning, brush his teeth and thus conclude his cleansing process?

Cleansing
It’s very important not to overdry the skin.
A gentle cleansing foam works best. Some more potent, such as charcoal soap, can be used locally on inflamed areas. Charcoal stops the inflammation very quickly.
The daily foaming cleanser should be light and not dry out the skin. For example. Mizon Snail Repairing Foam Cleanser dries out sensitive skin, so I won’t buy it again for a teen.
My teens like my own cleansing foam made for dry and sensitive skin – Innisfree Olive Real Cleansing Foam.

And there’s also an awesome cleanser by Cosrx, which is meant specifically for acne and sensitive skin. We use it in the mornings, but it can also be used at night. It’s called Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser.

Toners
We have several of them. The summer version is The Saem Urban Eco Harakeke Toner. Again, this toner fights inflammation, calms irritated skin, heals and hydrates very well.
The winter version, which we are already using as well, is salicylic acid toner from Benton for blackheads and inflammation. It’s very gentle. The maker promises that it’s suitable for all skin types, even sensitive (if you are not allergic to aloe!).

And a totally winter version. A toner against breakouts and blackheads with AHA and BHA acids (but still gentle) Clarifying Treatment Toner by Cosrx.
It’s a purifying toner with mineral water (instead of just purified water) for healthy skin and removal of dead cells. Active ingredients such as allantoin deliver moisture and nourishment, making the skin hydrated and smooth.

All of this is needed for prevention, care and cleansing.

Creams and gels
There are snail creams, which aren’t for everyone since many people react to mucin and experience dry skin. But the lucky ones for whom snail creams work will see amazing results – acne and post-acne skin looks flawless after snail treatments. Besides, there are those who oppose the use of growth factors in cosmetics, but snail treatments and the snail mucin itself do contain those factors. You can read a professional opinion about that here.
If you are still with us and not afraid, then here’s a cream I give to my child to apply to pimples. Not on an entire face, but only as a spot treatment.

cream

There’s another, more potent version, in a black jar, which some people prefer. It’s a medicinal cream, therefore it’s more concentrated. And it dries the skin out more, making it suitable for oily, acne-prone skin.
Cosrx brand specializes in troubled, blemish-prone skin, and has a snail mucin line plus Advanced Snail 92 cream. It has rave reviews, and the manufacturer promises hydration.
Advanced Snail 92 All in One Cream is a nourishing, hydrating cream, which energizes and beautifies the skin. Snail secretion in a 92% concentration.

The cream is too heavy to be applied to an entire face of a child, so it’s better to use light gels for protection and hydration.
Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream is exactly that type of light and pleasant gel, also containing snail mucin. Softens, hydrates, and heals blemishes, even though the % concentration of mucin it it is less than in the cream.

And one more thing – I bought this gel for myself, but the kids ended up liking it and now use Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel as well.

Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel

Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel

Calming gel with Aloe and Propolis is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and troubled types. The product contains 80% aloe barbadensis leaf juice, which has a high concentration of polysaccharides, and 10% propolis extract to prevent skin damage. Propolis extract is also well known for its skin relaxation properties, which lessens the stress and increases hydration of the skin. (This is only suitable for those who are not allergic to honey and aloe!).

Masks
Imho, kids don’t need ampoules and serums, so let’s move right onto masks.
For cleansing, you can do a clay mask once a week; I’ve used different ones.
Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask was too drying, so I ended up not liking it, even though it’s cool looking. I won’t buy it again.
Same thing with the Secret Key Black Out Pore Minimizing Pack. It’s too drying, too thick, and at the end was really hard to even get out of the jar.

The things that worked.
Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask – a mash with volcanic ash. For very oily and troubled skin, there’s a more intense version Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask.
I prefer the first one, which is more gentle.
Remember, that you shouldn’t let clay masks dry completely on the skin. They have to be moistened with a mist, for example.

Black film mask against blackheads. Best if used right after a shower on a clean, steamed face. Apply in thin layer on the t-zone and leave to dry for 15-20 minutes. Once it’s completely dry, remove carefully.

Cosrx One Step Pimple Clear Pad
Cleanse clogged pores with salicylic acid, exfoliate and clean the skin. They are also astringent, so don’t go overboard. I cut mine in half, then in half again. I don’t think you need to use the full size; use only in areas where you can feel a zit coming or which have blackheads.

For breakouts
Acne Blemish Pout Pink Spot by Mizon. Applied to specific spots to dry out the zits and prevent them from worsening. Dip a cotton swab to the bottom of the bottle and apply only to troubled zones.

Cosrx acne pimple patches. These will only help with an occasional breakout. This isn’t for those with widespread issues.

patch

I ordered these patches on iherb on sale. I bought 15 packs, because they run out quickly in my house (and also on iherb).

Our most favorite anti blackhead patches are Egg Pore Nose Packs from Tony Moly.

The girls say that these stickers are the best at cleansing the nose. But I prefer Ciracle Pore Control Blackhead Off Sheet, and maybe they will suit your teenagers as well.
